About Us
A slice of something extraordinary
at the end of Harlaxton's driveway...
Our backstory
The tale of two countries, cultures, cuisines...
The familiar is always within reach. But now and again, the yearning for something out of the ordinary whispers in your ear.
Sometimes it roars.
Gregory Gregory, a visionary owner of Harlaxton Manor, felt the call for difference loud and clear. Inheriting the Manor in 1822, he flipped the script on what a traditional country estate is. Someone who went against the grain of set conventions to create a remarkable place—somewhere that merges tastes, cultures, and methods to create something pretty darn wonderful... to pursue the extraordinary.
Violet Van der Elst entered the story just over one hundred years after Gregory Gregory took the helm. A social campaigner and successful entrepreneur, she brought a new spark of electricity and proud features in the form of mighty lion statues that watch over the Manor’s front circle to this day. But times change, and with it comes unfamiliar ideas—different approaches.
More tales to tell
Four decades after Violet’s departure,
Dr William Ridgway would pave the way for American students and tutors to embark upon life-changing learning at the University of Evansville’s study abroad centre. Wide-eyed and no longer stateside, trips across the pond to Harlaxton College meant the Union Jacks of Lincolnshire were seen through visions of stars and stripes.
Thanks to this Anglo-American intermingling, a reimagining of what it means to be red, white, and blue has left a unique legacy.
This distinctive combination is a sensibility we’re proud to behold here at the other end of the driveway, where the spirit of change-making Harlaxton patrons lives on in our public house.
